Chapter 1
the history of Artha
the history of Artha
This chapter will cover information about the formation of the massive island that is Artha.
Long ago, before the first dragons appeared on the planet, there were 7 distinct land masses. Strange bipedal creatures lived upon the land, creating enormous structures and venturing deep into the earth. And, as the great scholar Balthezir wrote, "they sought to destroy the planet and themselves with it." Though no one knows why they preferred such destructive behavior, it is clear that they held no compassion or empathy for each other, much less the animals whose homes they were decimating. Eventually their society, if one could call it that, descended into chaos. There was a massive explosion, and a series of explosions that followed shortly after, that rocked the planet to its core. In turn, the planet fairly self-destructed. Most dragons believe that the dragon gods were disgusted with the way the bipeds conducted themselves, and, lead by Io, joined forces to cleanse the planet of its blight. It worked, and the bipeds, as well as most of the animals, disappeared after the "Big Bang", as Balthezir refers to it.
For an unmeasurable amount of time the planet stood empty, void of life. Its surface was nothing but boiling oceans and volcanic rock. Where there had been 7 land masses, now only stood one. Eventually life began to spring up. Plants sprouted in the soil and water, taming the scorching terrain and cultivating the oceans. Crude creatures such as fish, amphibians, and insects began to appear. Flowers started to bloom. Though this land was now much different than anything the planet had ever seen before.
Instead of being a land of medium, where a variety of things existed evenly throughout, it was a land divided. A massive mountain range split the mass down the middle, separating the two sides. On the northern side everything sprang up with bright colors and beautiful landscape. On the southern side life took a darker turn, and things became twisted and grotesque. Though there were still passes through the mountains, and ways around near the coasts, the two sides became almost as separate lands. Dragons lived and died by their own free will. That was, until, Syzdothyx arrived.
